Welcome to Traffic Management Industry
Association of Victoria's Website
The Traffic Management Industry Association of Victoria (TMIAV) was established in 2002 to represent the interests of the Traffic Management Industry in Victoria. A number of the original members are still involved, and as this industry has developed rapidly in the interim have been joined by new members interested in further developing professionalism and expertise in the industry.
After its initial focus on industrial relations the Association widened its role to address other industry representation issues - VicRoads, WorkSafe, Government Reference Group on Roadside Safety, Standards Australia, training and the provision of information to members and networking. Membership spread has been increased to now include an Associate category for businesses providing services and products to our industry.
Current operational issues have included:
VicRoads – Pre-qualification of Contractors. The Association has worked closely with VicRoads over a number of years developing the present pre-qualification protocol for traffic management businesses, in particular “Traffic Guidance Scheme” and “Traffic Management Plans”.
Worksite Safety – Review of the Traffic Management Code of Practice. TMIAV is represented on the working committee, which recognises us as key stakeholders in this process. The Association has been able to achieve meetings with VicRoads to work through specific issues of interest.
Participation in the development of the new Australian Standard for Traffic Control at Roadworks - AS1742.3 : 2009. As key stakeholders, TMIAV was directly represented on the Australian Standards Committee.
Policy issues:
At the present time our policy priorities include:
- Promoting the further development of training for new entrants and refresher courses for ongoing staff,
- Liaison with other key industry stakeholders such as VicRoads, Worksafe, Civil Contractors Federation and the industry associations which represent businesses which share our workplaces,
- Liaison with all levels of government that engage our services.
